How to Restore Dry, Brittle Hair

How to Restore Dry, Brittle Hair

None of us want dry, brittle hair. But if you get hit with your hair in this condition. Don't you worry, that's what Donna's Recipe family is here for!!  Here are a fe tips that can restore those thirsty strands back to health and good moisture.

  • Trim split ends: Start by getting a trim to remove split ends. This will prevent further damage and make your hair appear healthier.

  • Use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner: Look for products specifically formulated for dry or damaged hair. Avoid shampoos with sulfates, as they can strip away natural oils. Opt for products that contain moisturizing ingredients like mango seed butter, shea butter and vitamin E.
  • Limit heat styling: Heat from styling tools can further dry out your hair. Try to minimize the use of blow dryers, flat irons, and curling irons. If you must use heat, apply a heat protectant spray or serum before styling.

  • Condition regularly: Treat your hair to a conditioning treatment at least once a week. Look for a nourishing hair mask or conditioner that targets dryness and damage. Apply it to damp hair, leave it on for the recommended time, and then rinse thoroughly.

  • Use a leave-in conditioner: After washing your hair, apply a leave-in conditioner to help lock in moisture. This will provide additional hydration throughout the day and protect your hair from environmental damage.

  • Avoid harsh chemicals: Be mindful of the hair products you use. Some styling products, such as gels, mousses, and hairsprays, can contain drying ingredients. Opt for products that are labeled as moisturizing or nourishing, and avoid products with sulfates. Donna's Recipe Extra Creamy Hair Cream is a great replacement for gels that can harden and dry out your hair.  It gives your hair definition while keeping it moisturized.

  • Protect your hair from the sun: UV rays can damage your hair and make it more brittle. Whenever you're exposed to the sun, protect your hair by wearing a hat or using a UV-protectant hair spray.

  • Adjust your washing routine: Over washing can strip away natural oils from your hair, making it drier. We recommend when you use our moisturizing shampoo to apply directly to scalp and allow product to run down your hair strands.  One wash is really all you need with Donna's Recipe to properly cleanse but not strip the natural oils.

  • Eat a balanced diet: Your hair's health also depends on what you consume. Ensure you're getting a well-rounded diet that includes essential nutrients like vitamins A, C, E, and biotin. These nutrients can promote healthy hair growth and overall hair health.

  • Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water to keep your body and hair hydrated from within. Hydration is crucial for maintaining healthy hair.

Remember, it may take time for your hair to fully recover, so be patient and consistent with your hair care routine. If you have severe hair damage or persistent dryness, it's advisable to consult a professional hairstylist or a dermatologist for personalized advice.
